Diffchecker.net
Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 11, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Diffchecker.net handles information when you use the text comparison tool at https://diffchecker.net. It is written for the current text compare product only.
The short version: text comparison runs in your browser. We do not intentionally upload, read, sell, or share the text you compare. The site may use Google Analytics and standard hosting logs to understand traffic and keep the service reliable.
Who we are
Diffchecker.net provides a browser-based text comparison service. The site lets you paste or upload plain-text files, compare versions, review additions and removals, and adjust comparison settings.
Text you compare
The text diff runs locally in your browser using client-side JavaScript. When you paste text or upload a supported plain-text file, the content is read by your browser and compared on your device.
We do not intentionally send the original text, changed text, uploaded file contents, or generated diff output to our servers or to Google Analytics. You should still avoid placing secrets in URLs, feedback messages, or any future form field that is not part of the local comparison tool.
Local browser storage
To help you recover from an accidental reload, the site stores one recent text comparison session in your browser's IndexedDB storage. That local session can include the original text, changed text, selected view, comparison precision, syntax setting, and unchanged-line setting.
This restore session is stored on your device, not on our server. You can remove it by clearing the tool, dismissing the restore prompt, or clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
Analytics and technical information
When Google Analytics is enabled, it may collect usage information such as page views, approximate location, device and browser details, referrer, session data, and interactions with the site. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies to measure visits and returning usage.
Hosting providers and security systems may also process standard technical logs, such as IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamps, and error data. We use this information to measure traffic, troubleshoot problems, protect the site, and improve the product.
Cookies and similar technologies
The text comparison feature does not need cookies to compute diffs. The site may use browser storage for theme preference and restore-session data, and Google Analytics may set analytics cookies such as identifiers used to distinguish visits.
You can control cookies and site storage through your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies should not prevent the text comparison tool from working.
How we use information
We use information only for practical site operation, analytics, safety, and product improvement.
- Provide and maintain the text comparison website.
- Restore one recent local session after accidental reloads.
- Understand aggregate traffic and feature usage through Google Analytics.
- Detect, debug, and prevent abuse, outages, or security issues.
- Respond if you contact us directly.
How we share information
We do not sell compared text. We do not intentionally share compared text because the tool is designed to keep that content in your browser.
We may share limited technical or analytics information with service providers that help operate the site, including hosting providers and Google Analytics. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights or security, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or transfer of the site.
Retention
Local restore-session data remains in your browser until it is replaced by a newer session, cleared by the tool, dismissed from the restore prompt, or removed through your browser's site-data controls.
Analytics and hosting logs are retained according to the settings and retention periods of the services used to operate the website.
Your choices
You can avoid entering sensitive information, clear local site data, block or delete cookies, use browser privacy controls, or use Google's available Analytics opt-out tools. These choices may reduce analytics collection but should not stop local text comparison from working.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and remove it where appropriate.
Security
We use reasonable measures intended to protect the site. No website or browser storage mechanism is completely secure, so you should not rely on the service as a secure vault for confidential material.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the product changes. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new last-updated date.
